THE 2022-2023 CONTEST Theme

Lead with Compassion

Children know how powerful compassion can be. They’re often able to express this feeling more openly than adults. This year, we invite young people to explore and visually express the peaceful future that compassionate leadership brings.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST 2022/23
This starts out as a local contest with the local Mineola LIon's Club.
The entire contest is a National Contest.
There will be prizes at the local level for the top 3 winners.
After this round, the 1st place winner will go to the next State Round and then further.

This Year's Theme:
Lead with Compassion

Winners get to celebrate with lunch from
the Mineola Lion’s Club & receive prizes
for their hard work.

Peace week

To prepare for Peace week,
art is working on Collaborative Classroom Peace Projects. To further emphasize the idea of working together as a group, we are each tsking our own pieces of art made with ideas of peace and gluing them into the peace symbol.

Peace Boquet

Pablo Picasso
1881-1973

What an amazing yet simple picture.
I love how even the most famous artist of modern art uses the simplest shapes and colors to communicate an idea of peace. His lines are not perfect (even a little messy) & his flowers are not realistic (a little naïve even).

Picasso created lots of simple line drawings to remind us of peace with just POPS of color on the flowers to add emphasis. I want to used this simple idea for my students to show peace and love this week.
This week happens to be PeaceWeek at our school and the weekend following is Valentines day!

Even when Picasso was "old", he still painted and acted like a little kid.
He was full of energy and life.
He mastered art at a very young age... so the older he got, he liked to experiment and invent new ideas in the art world. His studio was his playground.
