"LOST SOCK "
FRIENDSHIP BRACELET
VOCABULARY
I usually teach students how to make patterns using a SHIP analogy. There is a captain and his ship mates.
There is a lower deck of the ship where they go to rest, there is a crow's nest where they go to look out.
The captain is always going up and on top, white the mates are always staying down and under. The ship has a sail to get it going.
Captain- dominant color, on top, goes up, shows up.
Ship Mates- hidden color, goes under, stays down.
Sail- the overlap of the captain over the mate(s).
Lower Deck- the resting area for the mates after they have done their jobs.
Tail- end of string.
I LIKE TO TEACH HOW TO MAKE THE BRACELETS IN ORDER OF EASE.
1.Chinese Staircase
2. Diagonal Stripe
3. Chevron
4. Braided Stitch
CHINESE STAIRCASE
This requires 3-5 strings about 2 feet long.

meeting in the middle. You will learn how to pull knots from the right side now.
YOU WILL NEED
2 or each color. I choose 3-4 colors usually.
1-Knot them together, tape them down, and divide them in order as a reflected/symmetrical image.
*Pull up the right half while you work on the left.
2-Use the first left color (captain) to go across the other (mates).
*When done, pull up the left side while you work on the right.
3-Take the right color (captain) and go across the other (mates) pulling to the middle.
4-When both right and left captian are together in middle, join with 2 knots.
Continue to the next outer new captain.
Tips & Tricks
HOW TO MAKE IT
ADJUSTABLE...
1. Braid in a Braid
“Braided” Pattern
1-Begin with three colors of three- 9 total
I chose black, coral, and teal.
2-Separate into 3 sections of 3
YOUR CAPTAIN COLOR SET is on the left.
3-Begin with the first/left string of color furthest on left (mine is black).
Using first string to do the Diagonal Stripe knots all the way through 2nd color (coral).
Do not knot to the right color (teal).
You will do this to 5 mate strings with 2 knots each.
4. Continue with the next color on the left (my 2nd original black)
Take it past the last middle string set (coral).
You will do this to 4 mate strings using 2 knots each.
5. Continue with the left color (the last black) and take it across the middle color.
You will do this to 3 mate strings using 2 knots each.
End with all original "captain" set in middle now.
YOU HAVE A NEW CAPTAIN CALOR SET on the right.
Begin with the first/left string of color furthest on right (mine is teal).
Using first string to do the backwards Diagonal Stripe knots all the way through 2nd color (black).
Do not knot to the right color (coral).
You will do this to 5 mate strings with 2 knots each.
4. Continue with the next color on the right (my 2nd original teal)
Take it past the last middle string set (black).
You will do this to 4 mate strings using 2 knots each.
5. Continue with the left color (the last teal) and take it across the middle color.
You will do this to 3 mate strings using 2 knots each.
End with all original "captain" set in middle now.
