My 7th and 8th graders have been learning how to change a shape into a form using line.
I introduce them to contour line by showeing them a pumpkin. I have them look at the lines in the pumpkin and how (as they get further from center) the line curve to the shape. Whne lines on an object curve with the shape, it is called contour lines.
I then show my students a slideshow of the work of OpArtsists Victor Vasarley and Bridget Riley.

Student read over this worksheet to help them understand how to create spheres (or alternative shapes)
by using cross contour lines. They were taught how to make shapes appear as though they were sinking in or bulging out of the paper.
