Lifesize Avatars

In my advanced art class of 8th graders, we have gone on a long artistic adventure to the land of Narcissism.
At this age it is important for the kids to grasp an understanding of who they really are.
So, what better way than to create themselves in an ezaggerated form... and LIFESIZE.
I did my own avatar first to test the waters.
I love having another "me" in my classroom to freak the kids out (Bahahaha).

Student Avatars to be posted soon.
Stay tuned...

  1. How are these made? Are they done using cardboard? Can't figure it out!

  2. Hey Aly, sorry it took me so long to respond. I get super thick cardboard from Sears Appliance stores. I ask (of course) and they are willing to give it to me if I tell them what it is for. It is really sturdy and about an inch thick. The only thing is a box blade is just a little shy of cutting in on one round. It takes about 1 and a half hours to fully cut the body out! craziness! So, just be willing to sacrifice a couple class period to do that. Thanks for looking.

    And Shanna, thank you!

  3. Here you go - I did this with my class!!

  4. Love this project. What medium did u use. Blending techx looks great. Please share lesson plans with me.

  5. I teach a intellectually disabled middle school class - can you think of ways to modify this - I think they would love something like this. Also, other than cardboard in paint, what other materials did you use?
