Cow Parade in East Texas!

The original Art Cow Parade started in Zurich, Switzerland. Many have been inspired by it, including in my Middle School Art classroom! I have been doing this project with 6th-8th grade for the past 4 years. It never gets old because they can fill it up with whatever they want. The cow can be seen as a cow or just as a blank white space that just so happends to be in the shape of a cow. I allow them to be creative with thier ideas and mediums. I love doing these cows along with them in class. We do them very large on reused book covers. But, they can be done larger (life size) or smaller (worksheet) depending on the time allowed. I show them a powerpoint of cows that have officially been on parade from different areas, a Youtube news clip of the event, and ideas created by other students. At the end of the slide show, I clipped 4 clipart cows onto the last slide. The students take their large paper up to the screen and trace the outline of the cow. Then then go to their seats and begin on the interior design. I like them to trace to cow so that they will all be the same. I want them to focus on what is inside rather than making it a cow drawing lesson.

Great VIDEO for INTRO
